Again, the right information will always save you from the sheer activity and miniature results. On other days when there are exciting results, there must have been several hours invested in rigorous processes, especially when there is a point of comparison.
This is where my post comes in today; did you know that Google has several useful hacks that could help streamline your search when using the search engine? Ok! Well, I bet you will say yes, but where you should be happy is that that is what this article will be addressing today. So, I'll advise you to please come forward, mute the K-Drama channel, and let's learn something new. I assure you, you'll thank me later!
By the way, this article has been possible through the opportunity The Watchtower, Dubai has provided me. They sure make digital marketing look easier than those bulky digital marketing books for dummies.
That said, below are 9 familiar punctuation and word choices that can influence your search when you are next surfing the net through Google.
1. The Quotation marks.
When conducting a search on Google, and you seek a definite and precise phrase, you can include “Quotation marks” just before and after those words.
What this does is that Google conducts its search and returns with pages having only these exact words in the same order as written by you.
Example: “The Watchtower Dubai”
Will only show up as lined up and not in splits.
2. AND.
On another mind-blowing experience with Google hacks, including “AND” to anything entered will pull up results that have words from both listed on the search bar.
Example: A search on “Dubai” AND “Qatar”
Will display both locations together and not separately just as seen.
3. Filetype.
Another search term called the Filetype is also a useful tool for getting a desired result without investing in wasteful time.
While including “filetype: [insert filetype]” in one’s choice of search, you can be assured of getting your search results in this format.
Example: “Google Q1 financial report filetype:pdf”
The results on the SERP will only be in PDF and no other formats as requested.
4. Insert two periods/full stop.
With the use of inserting two periods or full stops between numbers, this command tends to find the numbers within the range of both figures.
Example: Toyota vehicles that cost between AED 18,000..AED 25,000
5. After.
One other useful Google hack would be the use of the word “After” in sentences that provides results after an included date.
This means that you can choose to commence a search excluding a certain period but focusing on just “after” a period.
Example: Web development after year:2000
This action will produce only results after the year 2000, as other materials would not pop up on SERP [Search Engine Result Pages]
6. Before.
By including the “Before” command in a sentence search on the Google search engine, the results will return showing data before the specific date included.
Example: Dubai immigration laws before:2021
The results populated will show everything before the year 2021.
7. Site.
The use of the word “site” allows one to be concise when in need of exact keywords on a website.
Example: “Google site:http://thewatchtower.com”
8. Hyphen.
The inclusion of a hyphen before a word automatically excludes the word following the hyphen from your search.
This means that you can enter a search on Google, include a space and then “hyphen” and then the word; this action eliminates the word after the hyphen in your results.
Example: “Software applications –Figma".
9. OR.
The choice of including OR in a search helps perform two search queries simultaneously with the best results.
Example: “Show Nike sports gear OR Addidas sports gear”
Conclusion.
We must remember that knowing about a tool or service is good, but how well to use them remains the ultimate reward for knowledge.
Google has robust functions and tools that can save you extra time and limit your search to a rewarding and intentional surfing experience every time.
Go through these listed above and practice them for your clarity; I bet they will come in handy, and more importantly, they will save you.
