Ok, let's get seated already, while I fill you in. 

So, the Smartphone in its barest meaning is regarded as a mobile phone that performs many of the functions of a computer, typically having a touchscreen interface, internet access, and an operating system capable of running downloaded apps. That being said, you should get acquainted with this feature amongst other amazing things your Smartphone could do for you. 

The mention of the name Webcam brought me memories of that almost funny looking device we had to place by our tabletop many years back, then we advanced to one which could be clipped to the flatscreen of your Display Unit; how time flies... then came advancement, and we had them inbuilt to our laptops, notebooks, and the likes. The Webcam brought a different feel to just having a conversation limited to audio, but the advantage that I can hear and see the person at the other end.

If you happen to be using a computer running on Windows or Linux and an Android phone or iPhone, one of the simplest (and wireless) methods is the use of the DroidCam app. 

The DroidCam app is free, although its limitations are that it hides a few features such as improved video quality, contrast and sharpness tools, and more in its DroidCamX app for Android, which also removes ads. Well, you could unlock its unique features by using the upgrade icon on the iPhone app settings; but I'll recommend the free version first though before a purchase. 

First, on your phone, download the app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. (Your Android device must be running Android 5.0 or later.) To check, go to Settings > About Phone > Android Version, whereas iPhones require iOS 9 or later, which can be found by going to Settings > General > About > Software Version.)

Continue by downloading the Windows client to your computer and following the setup wizard's installation instructions.

You should see the DroidCamApp icon on your desktop. To open it, double-click it. Allow the app to access your camera and microphone on your Android phone. Ascertain that your desktop and phone are both connected to the same Wi-Fi network. (It also works if your desktop is connected to the network via Ethernet.)

On the phone app, some numbers will appear after Wi-Fi IP and DroidCam Port. Enter these values into the Device IP and DroidCam Port fields on the PC software. Make sure that both Video and Audio are selected. Press the Start button. The camera will be launched by the phone app, and the feed will be visible on the PC client.

To make it work with your videoconferencing software, you must first launch the DroidCam PC client and app (steps 4 and 5 above). Then, in the settings of your videoconferencing app, change the camera and microphone input to DroidCam and DroidCam Virtual Audio. It should begin using your phone's hardware right away.

I know you’re all excited, however, please note that the DroidCam does not work with apps downloaded from the Microsoft Store on Windows. This implies that, when using Skype, make sure you download the desktop client rather than the app from the store.
